Learn Every Day

Infant

Infants and Toddlers are unique. They have special ways of learning about the world and exploring their environment. Appropriate early experiences provide the base for knowing and understanding their world, and these experiences shape early development. The Learn Every Day: Infant, Toddler and Twos program provides guidelines and activities that reflect a philosophy of inclusion for all infants, while emphasizing that they should participate in these activities according to their own individual schedules. It also ensures that objects, movement, and experiences are included that positively affect all areas of development: cognitive, language, social-emotional, and motor.

Toddlers and Twos

Learn Every Day: Infant, Toddler and Twos is specifically designed for the expanding world of a child who is mobile. During this time, toddlers learn to explore their world, draw conclusions based on those explorations and build new problem solving skills. It is during this critical period of development that language, social emotional skills, and mobility increase rapidly. The child centered activities in this program are presented in the following areas: art, brain builders, fine and gross motor skills, language and communication, early literacy, music and movement, outdoor explorations, sensory explorations, and social emotional development. For older toddlers, activities are arranged in broad exploration areas such as colors, shapes, animals, taking care of the world, and numbers. Additional emphasis is placed on setting the stage for toddlers and twos as they explored, discover, and learn.

Threes, Fours and VPK

Based on the latest research about how children learn and develop, Learn Every Day: The Preschool Curriculum is designed with activities that connect literacy, math, science, social studies, and creative arts. It is organized into 36 units and follows a brain-based approach to learning that encourages exploration and discovery. Each unit contains the following elements: goals and objectives, strategies for meeting the needs of dual language learners, adaptations for children with special needs, suggestions for extending the learning, tips for developing social–emotional skills, and ideas for connecting with families. Learn Every Day was intended to provide children with multiple opportunities: to make generalizations about the information they have acquired through exploration and creative problem solving, to participate in high-interest activities that offer multiple ways to learn through a variety of modalities, and to incorporate new problem-solving strategies into their existing knowledge bases. It focuses on multisensory instruction by offering a variety of sensory experiences to facilitate learning. By designing an environment with sights and smells; language and auditory rhythm; and opportunities for gross and fine motor movement, touch, and manipulation, children experience the wonder of learning!

A Beka

Threes and Fours

The A Beka curriculum focuses on several learning areas to develop the preschooler's love of learning. Language development and listening skills activities abound, including recognition of letters and their sounds, pictures for short vowels and consonants. Simple counting to thirty and number concepts to 15. As a child moves into the four-year old program more concepts are developed such as blending sounds and reading sentences. Also number skills are enhanced to 100, and even simple math skills. Poetry becomes part of the program where the children learn poems and finger plays. Community helpers, learning about countries and health and safety are also integral parts of the curriculum.

VPK

The A Beka curriculum for our VPK class builds on the foundation learned in the three and four year old classroom. Special sounds and blends (phonics) are learning to prepare the children for reading. Science is introduced including themes about plants, animals, earth and space and health. More math skills are introduced as well: adding, telling time, using the calendar, days of the week and money values. We introduce syllables, rhyming and sequencing skills as well. Finally, social studies theses are brought in such as learning about children in different countries and famous Americans. The children that graduate from our VPK program have built a solid foundation in which they will excel in kindergarten.

 Nemours Bright Start

Threes, Fours and VPK

Nemours Bright Start is designed to expose young children to critical early literacy skills. The program includes 20 lessons that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for young children. These lessons incorporate elements from high quality children’s literature and music to introduce key concepts and critical early literacy skills. Teachers engage each learner using explicit, systematic instruction, using variety of multisensory teaching strategies. Each lesson in the program includes five building blocks of early literacy: Oral Language; Print Awareness; Letter Knowledge; Phonological Awareness; and Emergent Writing. Exposure to these important early experiences in each of these areas enhance the development of early literacy skills and build a foundation that supports future reading success.
